The Year That Made Us Family

Some weddings come together in a season. Carly and Mason's came together across a whole year — and honestly, that is my favorite way to work. Partial Planning gave us time: time for their ideas to settle into a day that felt like them, time to talk through every decision as it came, and time to simply get to know each other along the way.
We met every couple of months, and in between there were the calls, the questions, and the "what do you think about this?" moments that make up an engagement. My part in all of it was simple: carry the details, keep the plan moving, and be a steady voice on the other end of the phone — so Carly and Mason could actually enjoy being engaged, instead of managing a project.
And then came the day itself: a black-tie-optional October afternoon at Cedar Ridge Country Club. Carly walked down the lawn aisle with her dad. They said their vows out on the green and kissed beside a golf flag made just for them — "The Lees, Est. 2026." Her swans turned up everywhere, from the cake toppers to the invitation suite, and even the golf tees were engraved with their names. Dinner was long tables and deep-green linens under the string lights, dancing on a checkered floor, and a getaway in a decorated golf cart, streamers and all.
A year of planning leaves its mark in the best way. The day ran the way we had drawn it up together — but what stayed with me most arrived afterward, in an envelope.
What a year of planning looks like, in her words: after the wedding, Carly and Mason sent a thank-you note. I'll let it say the rest:
“This feels like a breakup — am I just supposed to not see you every couple of months now?? You've been the most constant supporter and friend this past year and truly the vendor I could not have survived without. A coordinator, planner, friend, therapist, guard, and so much more, you have been the brightest light."
— Carly & Mason
I keep that note where I can see it. It says out loud what I hope every couple feels when we plan together: that they were looked after, from the first meeting to the last dance. The timelines and the details matter — but being able to relax into your own engagement, because someone you trust is holding all of it? That matters more.
